Community Impact

Cook Inlet Tug & Barge has always supported the communities in which we live and work.  As part of the Saltchuk family of companies, we have a commitment to give back 1%.

Purpose: The purpose of the Cook Inlet Tug & Barge Maritime Company Corporate Giving Program is to recognize our responsibility as a good corporate citizen in making contributions back to the communities in which we operate. The Cook Inlet Tug & Barge corporate giving program is directed towards local agencies and non-profit organizations that provide needed services to those communities.

Overview: Cook Inlet Tug & Barge supports local organizations through several means of contributions – corporate charitable contributions, volunteer activities, in-kind giving and matching gift contributions.  To more effectively process donation requests, all requests will be processed through an online application process administered by GIVINGtrax.com. Employees and charitable organizations can reach GIVINGtrax through at https://www.givingtrax.com/giving/cook-inlet-tug-barge-corporate-giving. Any requests received outside of the online application process may not be accepted.

Focus Areas:  Cook Inlet Tug & Barge's giving guidelines are structures around the following key areas of focus:

  • Arts
  • Community

All requests for in-kind contributions will be evaluated based on CITB's availability of material resources and manpower.

About Us

Cook Inlet Tug & Barge was formed in 1924 by the Anderson Family. Originally named Anderson & Son’s Transportation Co., the family owned business helped build Alaska by providing marine services to contract mail, passenger and cargo services between Cook Inlet and Prince William Sound and all the way to Kodiak, Dutch Harbor, Anchorage and Seward and as far south as Puget Sound. Re-incorporated after World War II as Cook Inlet Tug & Barge, we have taken pride in being a market leader in the areas we have served. In 1964, after the big earthquake, Cook Inlet Tug & Barge refocused its efforts by providing premium marine services throughout South Central Alaska, especially Cook Inlet and the Port of Anchorage. We take pride in providing excellent services in a very unique and challenging environment.

In 2011, Cook Inlet Tug & Barge joined the Saltchuk Resources family of companies headquartered in Seattle.  In 2020, Cook Inlet became part of Saltchuk Marine, who oversees Saltchuk’s diverse group of tug & barge companies. Collectively, the Saltchuk Marine group of companies are one of the largest operators of tugs and barges in the United States.
